Eulogy for Severus Snape.

Severus Snape - In the End.

"You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potionmaking," he began. [...] I don't expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses ... I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death -- if you aren't as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach."

-- Severus Snape.

It's been 2 days since I read the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.I admit that I struggled to get my copy as soon as possible.

I've been harboring a great liking for Severus Snape. I've been telling people that Sev is my favorite character from the books and movies, but they used to taunt me and curse him... I agree he was irksome...I was trusting him though...and see what's happened in the end... it was as though someone was embracing me and telling "Its alright to be Snappish, look how he's been all along, keep aside your grudges and salute him for his bravery."

But JKR once said,

"Why do you love him? Why do people love Snape? I do not understand this. Again, it’s bad boy syndrome, isn’t it? It’s very depressing. [Laughter]. One of my best friends watched the film and she said, “You know who’s really attractive?” I said, “Who?” She said, “Lucius Malfoy!”

Why?... she said so...? That created the hype. But one has to remember that she said to keep an eye on old Snape and not to ignore him.

I was truly touched by the books. My emotion range is above 70% then how could I not be...

She has provided us with the most charming expression of love and forgiveness."The Prince's Tale", the most sublimest of all chapters.I had also believed, there had to be a strong reason why Snape would still save the boy again and again. Nothing short of love for his mother was my favourite idea, if not the most logical after all.

My eyes swam with tears during the course of reading the chapter.I was on the bed, didn't dare move and could hardly proceed with the next lines. And later that day I was so obsessed with the tale that my dreams were haunted...

Harry bent over him, and Snape seized the front of his robes and pulled him close. A terrible rasping, gurgling noise issued from Snape's throat. "Take ... it ... Take ... it ..."
blah blah blah... flasked the memories...

"Look ... at ... me ..." he whispered.

Then the green eyes met the black and something happened to the black eyes and they became still and they moved no more.

It occured to me only the next day that it might 've meant that 'one last time Snape craved a glance at Lily's green eyes. Oh, how touching these lines are....made my eyes water when I was thinking about this while driving my two-wheeler to my college. And hope never could anyone stop Snape meeting Lily at the heavens. For one mad moment I even thought Severus would've made a better husband for Lily indeed. oh, come off it...

Harry was bullied by Snape, since youth wounds that infect and cut deeper as you grow up, arrogance, prejudices and so much more. He had been a teacher who misused his post to bully students. And now everybody's fool...all those who solely believed his arrogance and loathed him to core.

Now I dunno how many people would end up liking him after the final scenes... ha! love for Snape after the prolonged hatred [ this sounds clumsy, isn't it!!] ...even the character, Harry Potter, to call his own son Albus Severus is the greatest honor accorded to Snape, and it bridges the gaps left by Lily, James and Severus themselves to have named Harry's children in their memory. No stronger moral could be reached because forgiveness is by far the hardest to learn and conquer, along with love.

One last word...

JKR, you've made us realize one true great love that was the cause of all the forgiveness and pain, which can hardly be found in the current e-life.

  1. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to
be really something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and very broad for me.
I'm looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

Simple, yet poignant lyrics (II)

I've got a knack of discovering pleasant songs, excellent movies, endearing books very late in time, sometimes even after it's fad fades away. One such song is Perunthil nee enaku... The beauty of this song is that it relates to some very simple, unnoticed but pleasing moments in a our day to day life. The duet is of two people who sing about  what they mean to each other. There are some cute imperfections in Madhushri's tamil pronunciation but the male singer makes up for all that. Duh! Why do I even have to annotate the lyrics? It speaks for itself. ;) Perunthil nee enaku jannal oram Pin vasal mutrathil ne tulasi madam Vidumurai natkalil pallikoodam Vilayattu pillaigalin chella kobam Aalilla nalliravil ketkum padal Anbe anbe neeye (hmmm....) Quote Wonderment (I)

I'm totally sick of examinations and stuff. World's worst stressors are exams. I've always had this opinion right from my childhood. Hmmm... So to get a break I was running through my old memories and thoughts. One such is the admiration for this quote, "Sometimes people are beautiful. Not in looks. Not in what they say. Just in what they are." --Markus Zusak The quote itself is amazing. Reminds me of so many things. And note that Markus Zusak's wonderful book called 'The Book Thief' which was a good read. Laziness blocks me from writing more. ;)

2 States - Oh please, no!

I don't know why I chose to read '2 States' over 'The Subtle Knife'. My copy of 'Subtle Knife' is sleeping in the shelf. I wish I had finished it off instead of reading this one. M' Okay let me tell why this book was so insipid, [beware of spoilers hehe!] Possible reasons why I picked up this book: 1. Thought it would be a light-read. 2. It involved IIM A 3. Curiosity to know the speciality of Tamil girls 4. Heard it is a slapstick comedy [ which is not, in any way] Top reasons why I disliked it: 1. Cliched plot with stale scenes. [Ithellam nanga 'Poovellam Kettupar' la ye pathutomm, Chetan!!] 2. Making fun of South-Indians went overboard. [where Punjabis were never hurt in any dialogues, a very feeble mocking was clear] 3. Nothing less than a Bollywood drama, too filmy! 4. Totally predictable. 5. Ananya herself [there're are a multitude of reasons to hate her, which I won't enumerate here] 6. The feeling of reading his p
